What

does it

involve?

DMP can be performed in individual or group sessions. Although each session is different, in all there are moments of conversation with the therapist and other moments of movement. Movement within a session can be accompanied by music and sometimes is silent; They can be used materials such as rings, balls or fabrics; sometimes it occurs as a couple with the therapist, alone or with others in the group. In the first sessions is the therapist who proposes more active exercises; as the process progresses and people have more confidence, promotes proposing movements, explore their creativity and try to move from the impulses that are in your body.

Generally, the sessions have three moments that give structure to work:

  1. the round Arrival (where everyone expresses how is)

  2.  the development of the session (which usually occurs in moving through different exercises) and

  3. closing (where each person expresses how he feels, what he realized what he learned, etc.)

It is noteworthy that throughout the sessions the therapist invited to develop certain exercises or movements but never force someone to do something. Unconditional positive patient acceptance, respect and confidentiality processes are just some of the values and ethical commitments that govern the work of dance movement psychotherapists.
